Dumb Folks 'Round These Parts- Part 30

In our previous episode our hero had just run into the Professor of Unova, Professor Juniper. She has very important information to tell us.

We will continue our adventure now.

Juniper tells me that she knows how to wake the legendary dragon!

She tells me that in order to wake the dragon... she doesn't really know what to do, but she thinks it will eventually wake up on its own.

She then proceeds to ignore the idiocy that just poured from her mouth and asks if I regret taking my journey. That makes me remember... the bad things...

I end up never answering her and she throws me a Master Ball and runs off to do whatever professors do in these games.

I start my way to Route 10, but before I can enter it I'm told that there is a huge storm on Route 7. I ignore the comment about it and run to Route 10.

I've already gone through a lot of this and suddenly Cheren stops me. Wait....

I forgot to heal after the gym battle with Drayden.

Cheren challenges me to a battle.

He has four Pokémon and I start to mildly hyperventilate.

Unfezant is out to fight against Pumprnickl, which I switch right away to Xanadu. Cheren starts to build up a Razor Wind. Xanadu Crunches on the bird, but it doesn't fully knock out Cheren's Pokémon. Razor Wind gets off and hits Xana. My red and black crocodile tries to Crunch, but Cheren has Unfezant use Detect. Another Crunch in the round is all it takes to finish this first battle.

He begins to send out Serperior, which I counter with Licky.

Cheren starts off with a Leaf Blade.

Licky counters with Flame Burst, but it doesn't quite take out his starter. Cheren must've tried to anticipate this and had given his snake Leftovers to heal a little bit of itself, but it's not quite enough. Another Leaf Blade and another Flame Burst and his second  Pokémon goes down.

Next is Simipour versus Royal.

Simipour uses Leer, which was stupid and Royal takes it out in two Shadow Balls.

For an unhealed team we are doing decently.

Last up is his Liepard... or what was his Liepard after Xanadu uses a Brick Break and OHKOs Cheren's final  Pokémon.

After Liepard finally goes down Cheren regretfully heals me up and Bianca comes running from behind and throws me a few revives, which I can't even use.

I don't want to sound sexist, but the women in this game are morons...

The next place to go is...

The road before Victory Road, which is still a continuation of Route 10.

It's the badge check...

I go through gate...

After gate....

And flash all of my badges.

And there it is --

Victory Road.

Ninjas Can Kiss My Lucky Egg - Part 20

I turn on a little background noise, this time it's Jurassic Park 3 on the SyFy channel.

Eesh... I forgot how horrible this movie is...

I head off to the cave, where Clay is waiting for me. The entrance is being blocked by a spiderweb made by Galvantulas. He clears it for me and gives me the TM for Bulldoze.

I'm left alone and head into Chargestone Cave, which is a new area!

I'm excited for a new Pokémon, but first I have to deal with N, because I see him a few steps away. I take a deep breath, ready to fight him, but first a Pokémon appears!

It's an adorable tiny, Joltik! It's an Electric/Bug-type, which is also the smallest Pokémon in existence.

I catch it, use the next name on the list (Bigguns, which is pretty funny) and remember I have to head towards N. As soon as I do ninjas appear.

Yes... ninjas.

N spouts his random nonsense and calls the ninjas the Shadow Triad, calls me the chosen one and then he warns me that there are Team Plasma grunts up ahead. They leave me, but soon I am joined by Juniper and Bianca.

Nothing about what they say matters because... they give me a Lucky Egg.

I love them more than anything now. Bianca and Juniper are my favorites. They gave me an awesome item. An item that will pretty much double the speed at which my Pokémon will level up.

I give them the honor of my attention now and realize that Juniper wants me to find Klink so she can study it. I promise to do my best and head into the cave.

There are lots of trainers and lots of random encounters happening here. I get in some much needed training.

I run into more ninjas as well and they re-remind me of the Team Plasma grunts further inside.

I don't fight everyone here though. I can use some of these trainers for training later on. I'm planning ahead!

I fight Team Plasma left and right and eventually I see N again.

He's blocking the N-trance to Mistralton City. He's blocking... the N... trance.

N challenges me to a battle.

He has four Pokémon.

The first is a Boldore, which is the evolution of what Amasya would have been...

Bigguns goes out first, but is switched with Xanadu. Xanadu takes it out with a couple Rock Smashes.

Next he sends out a Joltik, which is KO'd by a single Crunch.

He sends out a normally dangerous Ferroseed next.

Normally, this is a dangerous Grass/Steel-type, but Xanadu takes it out easily with a Rock Smash.

Klink is N's last Pokémon and it's the one that I had to gather information on for the lovely Professor Juniper.

Xanadu cleans up this last Steel-type and I have defeated N again.

Juniper and Bianca appear after the battle and N and Juniper talk for a bit. N despises Juniper and tells her that he does. After a short yelling match N runs off and Bianca tells me that she is Juniper's bodyguard now.

I run into Mistralton City where a man and lady interrupt me.

The man calls himself Cedric Juniper, Professor Juniper's dad.

He upgrades my Pokédex and introduces me to Skyla, who is the next Gym Leader and a hot-shot pilot.

She says she wants to battle me, but she has to wait because she saw a sick Pokémon on Celestial Tower. She says I can join her if I want and she runs off on her own.

I explore the town and find a TM for Skydrop and not much else.

Route 7 time!

I run into the tall grass and find a...

Zebstrika! The evolution of Yuko! I got Yuko back and stronger than ever! I catch it and call it Cowface, which is the next name on the list.

Post end.

A New Member and We Get Upstairs - Part 3

I head downstairs after my rivals... friends... training fodder... and my mum gives me a "cross-transceiver", which can also be spelled X-Transceiver.

Mine is blue and I wanted pink. Hmpf.

After talking to my mother for a little bit, I run outside after the other two and watch as Bianca tears through a flock of pidoves. This girl is a maniac.

I start to head towards the Lab, where I can see Cheren waiting, but I feel something in my gut. I head down to Bianca's house. As soon as I enter I see her father rushing towards her and screaming at her that she cannot go out on the Pokémon journey that Cheren and I are going out on. He's actually getting close to hitting her it looks like.

She yells back at him and storms out the the door telling me that she will meet me at the Lab. I take that as my cue and slowly back away from her house.

I make my way to the Lab and Cheren and Bianca are waiting for me. We enter the Lab and are greeted by... hold on my phone just went off.

My friend got back to me and has given me the nickname for Oshawott.

Oh... this is going to be a strange name. I'll save it for when I can nickname my Poké...

Professor Juniper has just asked if I want to name my Oshawott. Talk about timing. I'll give everyone a clue as to what my friend has decided to name my first Pokémon.

Do you give up?

You probably should, because he named my first Pokémon.... Upstairs.

So I now would like to welcome Upstairs the Oshawott.

Professor Juniper keeps talking and Cheren keeps chiming in. He's actually getting a little saucy with her, but she just ignores him left and right. How did I get myself roped up with these fools? After Cheren ignores her lesson about Unova, Pokédexes and Route 1, she tells us to meet her on Route 1 after giving us our Dexes.

When we head outside ready to start our journey my mom comes up to us and gives us all Town Maps! Thanks ma!

I head over and see Bianca and Cheren waiting right before Route 1. They call me over and they say that they want to take their first steps in their journey with me. I think why not, and join them in a line.

They make me take like ten steps with them instead of one! I just want to go out on my own and start catching Pokémon!

Juniper is waiting for us by some grass and wants to give us pointers on catching them.

At this time I crack open some trail mix and start munching away on some peanuts and dried mango, by the time I've eaten a few pieces she hands us each five PokéBalls and tells us to have at it.

I'm free to begin catching a team!

Bianca decides that she wants to start a little competition.

She wants to see who can catch the most Pokémon on Route 1.

Oh great... I can only catch the first one. I guess I'm ready to lose.

I somehow get roped into it without ever agreeing to it and I finally can go catch my first Pokémon!

I take one step into the grass and....

It's a Lillipup!

I don't mind these guys, they can be pretty useful!

I Tackle it once and bring it down to half health. I throw a Ball and catch it.

I have a small list of names from friends now and I welcome Zkippy to the team.

I realize that Upstairs and Zkippy are a little hurt so I run back home and heal them and decide to train them up a little bit. Better be safe than sorry.

I'll end this post by saying they aren't as weak as they once were...

Time To Settle Our Choices Politely - Part 2

With Part 1 out of the way with the introductions let me begin.

Up on the D-Pad, B Button, Select... that's all it takes to erase an old save and to see this screen.

And after hitting New Game is when we see the Professor of this game.

Juniper.

She is the first female Professor we have seen in the franchise, so this is a big deal.

Professor Juniper...

...Comes out in typical Pokémon fashion. She explains the world of Pokémon and then proceeds to ask questions about the player.

This brings up the first of many choices that will be decided by fate.

She asks if I am a boy or a girl. Of course I don't recall, so I have to roll a die for it.

If it is a one through three, I shall be born a man. If it comes up as a four through six, bring on the womanhood.

I am a...

...Dude! Last time I was a lovely lady, now I can rock out with my... nevermind.

Next to choose is my name. The area to type it in is less than it is in the previous Nuzlocke playthrough I participated in, so this time I go classic. I name him what the game is named. I name him Black.

With that she continues to talk as I continue to mash the A button.

The game is now officially starting to actually begin, but before that I turn on a television show to keep on in the background. Like the last Nuzlocke I shall let everyone in on the entertainment I consume while playing.

I am watching Wayward Pines today and I am two episodes behind.

I'm watching it for two reasons; one, it's supposed to only be ten episodes long and I love mini-series... and two, it looked a lot like Twin Peaks and I adore everything about that show. Including the fact that it's being continued and should be coming out soon andimsoexcitedsqueeeeeeee.

Anyways, let's continue.

I'm in my bedroom with one of my rivals in the game. His name is Cheren, everyone say hi to Cheren.

Him and I are waiting for the second rival to show up so we can open a large present, which is on my desk.

Suddenly, the other rival appears. Her name is Bianca, no one say hi to her, because she made us wait to open this present.

After Cheren chews out Bianca a little it is finally time to start our Nuzlocke journey.

There is a letter on the present from Professor Juniper. It tells us that there are Pokémon inside for each of us and that we should "settle our choice politely". I am already running to the present even when Cheren tells me I should choose first since it is my room.

Inside are three Pokémon:

Oshawott the Otter Pokémon. Snivy the Leaf Snake. And Tepig the Pig.

Each of these are decent Pokémon, especially with Tepig and his brute force and Fire/Fighting later on.

Since this is a choice it is time to roll. I set the dice up like this. 1-2 I take Snivy, 3-4 Tepig for me, 5-6 I snag Oshawott.

I roll the dice and score a...

Oshawott! I'm okay with that. I text a friend to name him, but he's taking a long time. I continue the game remembering that I cannot nickname the newest little guy... at least not yet.

Bianca then runs up to the present and takes hers without even talking to Cheren. She then throws Cheren the last Pokémon, he gets Snivy.

Cheren is a little upset, but in the end he mellows out, mainly because he wanted Snivy all along.

Then Bianca has the nerve to ask me to battle. Uh... we are still in my bedroom...

And we're off. Bianca sends out her Tepig and I send out Oshawott.

It's not even close. Oshawott uses Tackle four times and wins.

The battle is over and... MY ROOM IS A MESS!

She is, however, completely oblivious to what has happened.

Cheren even chimes in to berate her, "You... are completely hopeless."

You tell her, Cheren! She totaled my room...

Somehow Cheren let his mind get twisted by Bianca and he is now battling me in my room.

Is it just me, or is Cheren doing the Charles Xavier from X-Men?

They are a little too similar...

So another battle begins, this one still ending after I do four tackles.

And Oshawott hits level 6!

If those battles were any indication as to what the rest of the game will be this will be a cake walk.

Cheren then proceeds to get a little too sentimental and talks about how he is now a true trainer. I feel like I was his first time. I feel like I should be honored.

But they run downstairs to apologize to my mother and Cheren wants to meet me at the Lab and Bianca needs to go home for a quick bit.

I guess this is as good as any time to bring this post to a close.
